Why don’t you just kill yourself so I can live off the life insurance?

That’s what my son asked me last week after one of those typical mother/son arguments about heating bills.

I was depressed for two days.

I responded, “Because I’ve determined that it’s better to stay alive until you both graduate from high school, so we’re stuck with each other for 3 and a half more years.”

He is such a jerk.  When I told my younger son about it, he said, “Mom, I don’t know how you could have raised us both.  To tell someone to go kill themselves.  That’s horrible.”

Yeah, well, there you have it.  I’ve recovered, he’s behaving adequately, and I’m counting the days until I can exit.

  1. That is a harsh response.

But he is a teenager, right?

They don’t think things like this through before they say them. (I’m a teenager, I know, haha.)

Don’t kill yourself, no matter what he tells you to do.
